Diabetes in sub- Saharan Africa on increase
Abstract
Epidemiological data on diabetes mellitus in sub-Saharan Africa are still limited, but the prevalence and incidence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes are increasing with the persistent rural-to-urban migration, according to Jean-Claude Mbanya, from the Endocrine and Diabetes Unit in the Department of Internal Medicine and Specialities at the University of Yaoundé, Cameroon, and Kaushik Ramiaya, consultant physician and assistant medical administrator at the Shree Hindu Mandai Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, writing in the recent World Bank publication Disease and Mortality in Sub-Saharan Africa.
