Acute bilateral cataracts in diabetes mellitus – a report on two cases

Abstract
Although rare in patients with diabetes, acuteonset cataract is not uncommon in type 1 diabetes, especially in children, and gives a typical ‘snowstorm’ appearance.1 Although usually associated with chronic hyperglycaemia, it may also occur on rapid restoration of euglycaemia.
